James River Writers Conference 2008
One-on-one Sessions

One-on-One with a Literary Agent: 5 minutes each

The 5-minute "elevator pitch" provides you the chance to present the idea of your book the way you would if you were on a quick elevator ride with an agent -- so compellingly that the agent would say, "Send me the whole manuscript."

Conference attendees have the opportunity to sign up for 5 minutes with an agent free of charge. Slots will be filled on a first come basis, with priority given to members of James River Writers. Please indicate your order of preference on the Conference Registration form.

The literary agents attending Conference 2008 will be:

Barbara Clark of the Barbara Clark Literary Agency. Barbara’s areas of interest include commercial and literary fiction (including short stories), poetry, essays, cookbooks, illustrated books and general nonfiction (including memoir, biography, arts & culture, health & wellness, and religion). She does not do genre fiction, children’s books or academic books.

Jeanne Fredericks of the Jeanne Fredericks Literary Agency. Jeanne specializes in quality nonfiction by experts in their fields. Her agency’s strongest categories are health/medical, nature/animals, gardening, home/decorative arts, and practical popular references. She does not handle these areas: fiction, children’s, academic, essays, politics, teacher’s manuals, computer guides, or memoir. www.jeannefredericks.com

Natanya Wheeler of Lowenstein-Yost Literary Agency. Natanya is particularly interested in literary fiction (especially with a multi-cultural slant), edgy thrillers, moody mysteries, women’s fiction of all types, how-to books, and creative nonfiction featuring a truly unique subject. www.lowensteinyost.com

Ken Wright of Writers House. Ken is particularly interested in nonfiction such as popular science and popular history. For fiction, he likes YA and prefers literary to thrillers and mysteries. www.writershouse.com

Note: You may sign up for a one-on-one meeting with EITHER a literary agent OR the one-one-one session with the PR Team, BUT NOT BOTH. Read about each choice below.
